Lucille “Dixie” Welker Davis

03/10/1920 - 02/16/2012

Lucille “Dixie” Welker Davis, age 91, died Thursday, February 16, 2012 in Murray, Utah.
Dixie was born March 10, 1920 in Montpelier, Idaho to Carson Welker and Effie Barkdull. She met Stuart Lloyd Davis when she was seventeen, while working as a carhop at a drive-in restaurant in Boise, Idaho. They married and together raised a son and a daughter who gave them seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild. She loved each one of them with a passion, attending their games, concerts and special events with pride and joy.
In her soul, Grandma was an artist. Her life was her canvas, brightly painted with a beautifully kept home, bible teachings, story-reading, cookie-baking, tole-painting, sleepovers, RV-ing, square dancing, and even her stylish appearance. Everything had its place, and this is what gave her life color and texture. Her deep love for her Heavenly Father and her Savior were the underpainting which gave her life value and depth. As the oldest child of six, born to an impoverished couple, her young life was filled with struggle, but ended with a seventy-two year marriage, rich with the love and connection given her by her husband, children, grandchildren and innumerable friends. For us, her life was her masterpiece.
She is survived by her husband, Stuart; her sister, Ruth Dwyer; her sister-in-law, Margie Welker; her children, Steven (Katy Gayle), Diane (Bill) Bohling, grandchildren, Mark (Tiffany) and Alicia Davis; Brinton, Matthew, Nathan (Josie), and Jacob Bohling; and one great-grandchild, Isabelle Davis. Her sister, Marie Jenkins, her brothers Alfred, David, and Charles Welker and one grandson, Peter Bohling preceded her in death.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, March 10, 2012, 11:00 AM at Larkin Sunset Lawn, 2350 East 1300 South, Salt Lake City, Utah. The family acknowledges the loving kindness provided to Lucille by CNS Hospice and Bright Star Lifecare.
