Obituary

Bryce Alan Zundel, 66, a loving husband, father, Papa, son, brother, uncle and friend passed away, Saturday, October 31, 2026, surrounded by his family.

Bryce was born March 12, 1960, in Rigby, Idaho to J Garth (Jack) and Chloe Zundel and was the youngest of seven children. Growing up on a dairy farm taught him the value of hard work at an early age. He graduated from Rigby High School where he spent most of his time playing basketball, football, and running track. He led his basketball team to win two state championships and was the Basketball MVP for the state of Idaho in 1978. He then went on to serve in the Japan Nagoya Mission. After his mission, he continued to play basketball at Ricks College, Utah State University, and various recreational teams including the Huntsman Senior Games.

Bryce and his wife, Diane, met at BYU and were married on December 13, 1985 in the Salt Lake Temple. Together, they are the parents of four daughters. He graduated from Brigham Young University with a Master of Accountancy and began his career as a Revenue Agent for the Internal Revenue Service before becoming the Assistant Controller at Franklin Covey. He had an entrepreneurial spirit that drove him to his greatest successes, including owning and operating The Bagelry in Salt Lake City along with many other business ventures and professional projects throughout the years.

He was a committed member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and loved serving in many ward and stake callings. Bryce always enjoyed High Adventure, camping, Trek and Young Men activities and could always be counted on to help anyone in need. Those he served with in church callings remained some of his closest friends. He was a member of the Utah Association of Certified Public Accountants, the Sandy City Honorary Colonels Association, and a proud member of the Sons of Thunder.

Bryce loved basketball, snowmobiling, mountain biking, fishing, cornhole, and motorcycle trips with his wife and friends. He loved beekeeping, classic cars, working out, serving as an ordinance worker in the Draper Temple, traveling, and most especially time spent with his grandchildren. He loved meeting a friend for lunch, calling just to say “hi” while he was out and about, or showing up unexpectedly with a little treat just because he wanted to see his girls. Family was everything to Bryce. Friday night dates with Diane were always a highlight and they prioritized that time together each week. Bryce loved to fire up the grill for his family for Sunday dinner and took great pride in serving his award worthy steak and ribs. Being part of his children’s and grandchildren’s lives was his greatest joy and he attended as many of their school and extracurricular activities as he could to cheer them on.

Bryce is survived by his wife, Diane; children Erin (Thomas) Roberts, Alyssa (Braden) Callister, Taylor (Colten) Page, and Madeline (Corbin) Dunn; 13 grandchildren; siblings, Marsha (Roger) Ball, Kathy Walden, Janet (Philip) Johnson, Greg Zundel and Jacqui Garner. Preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Brad.

Above all, Bryce leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, humor, and adventure. We love you, we miss you, and we can’t wait to see you again.

Services will be held Tuesday, November 10th at 11:00 am at the Crescent Ridge 2nd Ward, 10975 S. Prescott Drive in Sandy, UT. Visitation will precede the service from 10:00-11:00 am.

Tributes

I enjoyed our chats at the gym. He was always curious and wanted to chat about how the human mind works. I will miss seeing you Bryce. Enjoy your new life and all the peace of mind on your new journey my friend!

Diane, I am so heartbroken for you. May you find peace and comfort.

Molly Parker

I was very upset one day when he stopped by. We talked. And his kindness, insight, understanding maid all the difference. It was the many little things that made him such a great man.

Donna Pope.

All six of my (now adult) children feel like Bryce was their friend and that he genuinely cared about them. My husband and I felt that too. There are not many men like him. His love of life and his genuine kindness will forever be remembered. He was a friend to all. Love you Diane and girls.
